Obituary

Gribbons, Warren Harold   With deep sadness the siblings of Warren Gribbons announce his death on Sunday December 29th in Toronto, Ontario. Warren was born on Sept, 1, 1949 in North Bay, Ontario at St. Joseph’s Hospital to Thomas Joseph Gribbons & Nelda Francis Gribbons-Scalzo (nee Zufelt). Warren is survived by his sister Lauren Gribbons (Mike James) of Oakland, California and by his brother Tom Gribbons (Lisa) of Saint John, New Brunswick. Our brother also had much love for Tom and Lisa’s children, Katie & Conor Gribbons. Warren was pre-deceased by his parents Tom and Nelda and by his mother’s second husband, Chuck Scalzo. Warren also had many aunts, uncles & cousins from both the Gribbons & Zufelt sides of our family; they are spread out across Canada. After attending schools in Englehart and North Bay (Scollard Hall) he went on to York University-Glendon College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree; then continued on to graduate from York with a Master of Arts degree in English Literature. It was in these years that he formed his deepest and long-lived friendships. After receiving a teaching diploma, he taught in Northern Ontario for a short time; then returned to Toronto where his many friends lived. Warren worked in several professions that included tutoring & home health care. As his friends & family know, Warren struggled with mental health issues through out his adult life. However, he was able to live an independent life with the assistance of his health care professionals & his many wonderful friends, especially David Bouchie & Ron Williams. There will be a Celebration of Warren’s Life on Sunday January 5th from 2 to 4 pm at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street, Toronto. A family gathering and interment will take place in North Bay in the summer of 2020. If desired, donations to the Schizophrenia Society of Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by Warren’s family and friends. Warren was the bright star of his parent’s lives, with his sparkling blue eyes & golden blond hair. He will be missed by all who loved him.

Lauren I remember you and your family from Englehart at Holy Family School. I’m sorry to hear that Warren had to struggle with health issues for years but am glad he had supportive people around him. Sending thoughts and prayers to your family.
