Obituary

William Edwayne (Wayne) Hill

It is with profound sadness that the family of Wayne announce his passing peacefully in the loving presence of his wife, and son, at Joseph Brant Hospital, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 due to complications from Multiple Myeloma in his 81st year. Wayne was born and raised in Hamilton and lived all his adult life in Burlington. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his beloved wife, Donna, of 60 years, his son Howard (Christine) Hill and granddaughters Emma and Bridgit (Chicago, USA), his daughter-in-law Sarah (Paul) Hill, and grandsons Jarvis and Austin (Sudbury), his sisters Lynn (Ken) Laverick and Marlene (Bob) Patterson and many extended family members and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Florence Hill and his son Paul Hill. Wayne was a man of many talents and interests. He spent his professional life at Stelco, the last several years as Manager of Training and Development. He spent several decades as a well-known and highly respected hockey referee in the many organizations including Burlington Minor Hockey, Burlington Oldtimers and the Ontario Major Junior A Hockey League. Wayne was a handyman par excellence and willingly helped neighbours and family throughout his lifetime. He loved to help anyone and everyone. In retirement Wayne and Donna travelled extensively to various parts of the world, with Wayne using his skills and interests at making the travel arrangements. Special thanks go to Wayne’s family physician, Dr. Jones for her exceptional care and for making Howard’s visit home possible to spend the last 2 days with his father. Thanks also are extended to the oncology staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre and the oncology staff at Joseph Brant Hospital for their care over the past one and half years. Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid restrictions, a virtual celebration of life will took place on Sunday Feb 28 at 7:00 pm so that all his many friends, family and business acquaintances were able to come together to celebrate the well-lived and well-loved life of Wayne Hill. Please accept my deepest sympathies, I knew Wayne through officiating hockey, and had the honour to work countless games over the years with him. He enjoyed being on the ice and had a great rapport with the players and coaches. Anytime I walked into the dressing room and saw Wayne's infectious smile it brought a smile to my face as well, for I knew we were going to have some fun that night. I loved his signature move for caling offsides, it reminds me of Daniel (The Karate Kid) when he was perched on the post by the ocean, I always laughed when Wayne pulled that move. Rest in peace Wayne, I'll miss you. Ray Day

To Donna ( Auntie Donna and Uncle Wayne) and Family, We are very sad to hear Uncle Wayne is no longer with us. Your life long friendship with our family reminds us of so many memories and fun times. Enough to right a book, all special and full of Joy. This all happened because of our Dad( John Lonnee) and Wayne’s special brotherly friendship. They are surely together once again refereeing hockey and having many laughs! Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Love Shultzie, Claudine, Mark, Chantelle, Matthew and Families ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
