Obituary
On Saturday, July 19th, 2025, in her 93rd year, Albertina Melo de Sousa passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Albertina was a woman of great faith, praying the rosary daily, sometimes several times a day. She watched the Daily TV Mass every day until her vision and hearing no longer allowed it. Albertina’s greatest achievements were building a life with her husband, Jaime, and raising her large family of 8 children. She especially loved cooking for them, making sure they were always well fed! She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren, and will be forever missed by them. She was a fountain of family stories and in her later years, loved having long phone conversations where she would recount family history, remembering every detail, right to the end.
She was born in Ribeirinha, Sao Miguel, Azores on November 2nd, 1932, to parents Anibal Almeida Melo and Margarida Larguinha. She was predeceased in 2014 by her loving husband of 56 years, Jaime F. de Sousa. Beloved mother of Margaret Proctor (Larry), Jaime, Linda da Silva (Victor), Filomena Filipe (Luis), Connie Mata (Isaac), Jose, Alfred (Elizabeth), and Luis (Charlene). Proud and loving grandmother of Jennifer, Ryan, Jeremy (Alexandra), Matthew, Laura (Matt), Samantha, Kaitlynn, James, Journee, David, Tina, Alex, and Sonia. Treasured sister of Rosa (Jose) (both deceased), Alfredo (Margarida) (both deceased), Margarida (Gaudino) (both deceased), Anibal (Esmeralda) both deceased, Eduardo (deceased), Manuel (Fernanda) both deceased, Joaquim (deceased) (Dorvalina), Hortencia (Jaime) both deceased, Denis (Helena), and Maria (Urbano). She will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
