Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ana Ferreira announce her sudden passing. Ana passed away peacefully on April 9, 2023 in the place of her birth, the beautiful island of Madeira.

Ana was a thoughtful soul who wore her heart on her sleeve. She touched the lives of so many, sharing her compassionate spirit and generosity with everyone she met. There was no one like her.

Ana’s passion was caring for others, and always made sure to graciously share whatever she could with those who needed it most. She was well known in Toronto’s Portuguese community, having started her career at Hilary’s on Dundas and later retiring from the Bank of Montreal, all while raising her daughter and caring for her nieces and nephews.

Ana loved a party and spent her free time at the Canadian Madeira Club. She enjoyed dancing and being with friends and loved ones while honouring her Madeiran roots. Ana was often found in her neighbourhood enjoying coffee, sharing stories and thoughtful time with everyone around her. She loved nothing more than to see others happy. No matter what colour, what physical state, rich, poor, she always listened and always helped, she never turned anyone away.

She was very loved and will be missed terribly. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Lee (Edmundo), grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica), Breanne, great granddaughter, Charlotte, her many nieces and nephews, her sister Susan (Norberto), brother Miguel and her companion, Joao Severiano. Ana is predeceased by her parents Jose and Maria Ferreira and her brother Teotonio Ferreira and sister Margo de Castro.

While Ana’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember her in a way that honours her vibrant spirit. The family kindly asks that each visitor wear something red – in true Ana fashion. She never left the house without her red lipstick, painted nails and a good blow-out. She was truly our lady in red.
