Obituary
after a long arduous illness on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in Mississauga, Ontario at the age of 92. Born March 6, 1923 in Drohobycz to John and Ewdokia Figura. Beloved wife of the late John Warwaruk, married for 43 years. Loving mother to Martha (husband Eugene Laskiewicz) and the late Taras Warwaruk. Aniela was a compassionate woman who loved her family and her many friends deeply. In retirement, she followed her many passions: sewing, baking and cooking and sharing her creations with those she loved. Despite many setbacks she strove to live life to the fullest, preparing traditional dishes for holidays. Even though her Multiple Myeloma wreaked havoc on her body, she was able to prepare a traditional Ukrainian feast this past Christmas, with the help of her daughter. Her passion for her homeland, Ukraine, and the current political situation gave her great heartache. Her father, John, was arrested in Drohobycz, never to be heard from again, when the communists invaded in 1940. After the end of World War II, Aniela’s mother and her two younger brothers, Leo and Anton, along with thousands of Ukrainians, were sent to Siberia. Her mother returned to Ukraine, but her brothers did not return. To this day their fate is unknown. Aniela read voraciously in English, Ukrainian and Polish until seven months ago when her illness worsened. Her daughter, Martha, and son-in-law Eugene Laskiewicz, supported her during this daunting time. Aniela will be missed by family and friends in Canada, the U.S. and Ukraine. Thank you to Dr. Blondal at St. Joseph’s Health Centre and to Dr. Soh and the nursing staff of 3A at Trillium Health Centre for the kindness they showed Aniela. A visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St. (just east of Keele) on Monday, April 6th from 6 – 9 p.m. Panakhyda at 7:30 p.m. A Divine Liturgy will be held at Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God, 30 Leeds St. on Tuesday, April 7th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery, 1280 Dundas St. W., Oakville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to “POMICH UKRAINI” Fund, Ukrainian Canadian Social Services Inc. of Canada, 2445 Bloor St. W., Toronto, ON M6S 1P7.Visitation
