Aurora Beca (Aurora Agueda Pereira Pisoeiro)

Aurora Beca, 102 years of age, of Kensington Gardens in Toronto, passed away on May 01st, 2024 peacefully in her sleep after a brief diagnosis of acute leukemia.

Aurora was born on December 15, 1921 to Elpidio Pereira Pisoeiro and Maria Candida in Angola, Africa.

Aurora met her husband Antonio Da Beca in Portugal and went on to have one child Domingos Elpidio Agueda Beca.

Aurora was a hard-working woman. After moving to Toronto from Portugal with Antonio and Domingos, she worked in the Textile industry. After her husband Antonio passed away in 1965, she continued on to purchase a home for her and her son Domingos, and rented rooms to Portuguese immigrants while they were making a life to bring their families to Canada. She worked during the day at her full-time job, and in the evening, she worked cleaning laundry for her borders and cleaning their rooms.

Aurora not having any formal schooling, took up learning to read and write Portuguese as well as English as a second language around 60 years of age. She met many friends embarking on the same journey.

She loved to garden and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were her world.

The staff at Kensington Gardens went above and beyond, were so loving and adopted Aurora as one of their own. Aurora was almost “one of the staff”, helping residents on a daily basis. The staff became so fond of Aurora and took amazing care of her while she lived in the residence for almost 10 years.

Aurora is predeceased by her parents, her husband Antonio, and sisters Louisa and Maria. As well as one of her best friends Ermelinda Galveias.

She will be dearly missed by her son, Dominic Beca and daughter-in-law Sharon Beca, her cherished grandchildren Natalie (Tim), Tanya (Jaime) and Miguel, and great grandchildren James Jr., Tiago, and Noelle, along with her best friend Deolinda Nazare, dear friends Jean and Michael Wolin and all extended family and everyone she touched.
