Obituary

Spence, Bernice (nee Rabjohns) born in Toronto on July 31st, 1927, died on June 13th, 2024.

Daughter of Harold Henry Rabjohns and wife Nellie Arnold, sister of the late Bert Rabjohns. Loving Wife of Robert (Bob) for 44 years until his death in November 2004. Sister in law of Elvia (Currie), Mary (Drummond), Pat (Evoy), the late David, Wally and Jack Spence and Anne (Rabjohns). Mother of Roberta (Robert) Hirschberg and son Jonathan (Aoi Yoshida) and doting grandmother of Julia, Joshua, Jin, Anika, Carter, and Toren.

For several years, Bernice was a teacher at John English School in Mimico. She became a dedicated and passionate activist for peace during The Cold War and beyond. A longtime member of Voice of Women, she wrote many letters to policy makers both at home and abroad, marched vigorously and protested all wars and war-makers.

Donations have been asked to be made to the Black Lives Matter movement and Native Women’s Association of Canada.
