Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Donna Lawryshyn, in her 102nd year.

Devoted wife of the late Michael, loving mother of the late Myron, of Olya (Phil), Boris (Marilyn), and Donna (Andrew). Loving grandmother to Natalie, Brandon, Larissa, Kelly, Nastia and Ema. Dear aunt and great aunt to family in Ukraine and North America. Devoted friend to many, and dedicated volunteer for many years with the Ukrainian Women’s Organisation at the UNF Toronto.

Despite hardship in her younger years, mama grew to be an inspiration to all who knew her for countless skills and expertise - be it paska baking, cabbage roll making, korovays for many weddings, management of a mass production event kitchen, sewing and embroidering elaborate traditional Ukrainian Hutzul jackets, Ukrainian dance ensemble costume seamstress, pattern creator, master gardener, roofer, cement layer…to mention a few.

We are sincerely grateful for the dedicated and caring team who supported us at home and also the wonderful staff at Ivan Franko LTC on Royal York Road for their generous care of our mama in her last weeks.

May her memory be eternal. She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Canada Ukraine Foundation

My deepest sympathy goes to the whole family. I knew Donna when she was active with Dorist children at the UNO hall. She would have cookie dough made the night before at home and bring it to the hall to roll out and have the little children cut shapes and decorate. I always enjoyed her calm presence and our OYK Toronto Branch appreciates and remembers all that she did for our organization. Orysia Sopinka
