LIVESTREAM LINK FOR FUNERAL SERVICE - THE LATE ELIZABETH FICIORIS - Saturday, October 12th, 2024 @ 12:00PM EST

God has called Elizabeth Ficioris peacefully on the 8th of October 2024 at the age of 94. She will be forever missed and cherished by her children Georgina (Gina) and son-in law Carlos and son Vasilios and daughter-in-law Mary. Proud grandmother to Elizabeth, Jamie and Jeffrey.

Elizabeth will always be remembered by her brother Lambo and sister Olimpia. Rejoined in heaven with her husband Peter. She will be held dear in the hearts of her family, relatives and many friends.

Elizabeth was born near Diptomia, Greece in 1930 to Stavros and Kaliopi Poursanidis. She lived on a farm in a tiny town in northern Greece. Elizabeth enjoyed the outdoors. Always adventurous, she would climb the walnut tree near the house and skip school to go catch frogs in the river. She had 3 brothers-John, George and Lambo and 2 sisters Elli and Olimpia.John was killed in the war, George died in a car accident and Elli died of illness. Sadly only 2 remain Lambo and Olimpia.

In 1950 she met and married Peter Ficioris who was a soldier stationed nearby. He asked her father for her hand in marriage and she agreed. Their first born son Vasilios was born in 1951. Thereafter, they all immigrated to Canada for a better life in 1960. And in 1963 their daughter Georgina (Gina) was born and in 1968 she purchased her one and only home on Pauline where she resided till the very end.

Elizabeth worked hard most of her life primarily in factory jobs. She worked at the laundry plant of a hospital, then Harbord Fish and finally Riviera Slacks pressing/ironing men’s slacks.

Her most favorite things were big family get togethers, where she would go all out and make all our favorite meals. But she is most famous for her roast lamb and spaghetti.

Elizabeth adored her great-grandchildren Jesse, Justin, Dorian, Dahlia and Lochlynn.

Her main passion and hobby was gardening as she would spend entire full days all summer tending to her tomatoes and vegetables.

How can one sum up 94 years? Only by saying there was sadness, grief but overall there was also joy, laughter and good times. For that is how life is. She made an impression on all who met her as a pleasant, sociable and friendly lady. Elizabeth leaves behind so many who dearly loved her and we will always admire her zest for life.

We will miss your smile, your laugh, your stories and of course all of the meals you prepared for us no matter what day or time we came by. You were always a great Yiayia to all of us. We are so blessed to have had you in our lives. So many good memories in that house on Pauline. From the smell of the food that was always cooking, to the beautiful garden in the backyard, to the laughs and funny conversations in the kitchen. Your spaghetti was legendary to our children and of course the rice pudding! Let’s not forget the roasted lamb and potatoes. And of course the conversation around the table was always lively. You were a strong, brave and courageous woman that always told it like it was without hesitation and we will surely miss you! We are glad that you are in peace now and please say hello to Poupa for us all! We love you Yiayia.

We saw Elizabeth just the other week, standing on her porch, enjoying the sun on her face. She looked happy, content. She was a wonderful neighbour, kind and giving. Countless times we returned home to find a bad of her tasty tomatoes hanging on our doorknob. We'll miss you Elizabeth - rest in peace.

Our deepest condolences to Gina, Bill, and the whole family. My aunt Elizabeth was a kind and caring lady. She loved to cook and garden. Everyone loved her roasted lamb, dolmathes, french fries and diples {Διπλές), just to name a few. Everyone envied her bountiful garden that grew a little bigger every year. She helped my parents when they came to Canada and loved all her family here and in Greece very much. She also had a funny side to her and could crack a joke out of nowhere and make us laugh. She will remain in our hearts forever . I hope you are with my mom and your parents and brothers and at peace . Love Jenny karezi 😉 Ο θεός να σε αναπαύσει Καλό παράδεισο🙏🏻

As Elizabeth’s neighbour, I saw and spent time with her almost every day for the past four years, and often joked that she was the person I spent the most amount of my time with aside from my partner Tom. She was an incredible force of a human and I learned so much from her. How to take life slowly, find joy in hard work, and of course, plant a proper garden. She would often show me her photo albums; it was always so clear how much she loved her family and how full of a life she had. Elizabeth made me a better person and taught me the importance of opening yourself up to unlikely friendships. So to you, Elizabeth, thank you. I will forever be grateful for my short but deeply meaning friendship with you.
