Obituary

We are saddened to have lost our beloved Eterna Arciaga Delos-Reyes, age 79, who passed away peacefully on June 17, 2022 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, surrounded by family.

Loving and devoted life-partner to Arturo Delos-Reyes, loving sister to Danny (Kathy), Aurora (Bob: deceased), Norma, Virgie, Florante (Josie: deceased), dearly beloved mother to John (Christina) and Faith (Brad), predeceased by her parents Nicanor and Cecilia, and sister Lina.

Eterna will always be remembered as an adored Lola to her four beautiful grandchildren, Chantal & Ellis, Chelsea & Miles, as well as to the many grandchildren in Eterna’s extended family. Eterna is our inspiration and will remain ever-present in our hearts.

Born in Manila, Philippines on March 12, 1943, travelling the world with Arturo and her young family, they lived in the Copperbelt province of Kitwe, Zambia before immigrating to Toronto, Canada in 1981. She devoted her extensive career to the Philippine and Canadian Bible Societies. Eterna was a shutterbug, highly skilled and proficient in photography and graphic design, an avid gardener, and a much-loved Sunday School teacher at Hillcrest Christian Church. We remember Eterna as a gentle, multi-talented matriarch, and we celebrate her well-known ability to organize in her community, always with compassion, modesty, and grace. Eterna lived in service to others and to Jesus Christ; she touched the lives of so many and made a lasting difference wherever she went and in whatever she undertook. Few could resist Eterna’s legendary Filipino delicacies, her generous hospitality, so sincere and loving, her care for each and every person in need, and her unfaltering devotion to her family.

Gone but never-to-be forgotten.

Eterna was a kind and loving person who radiated a calm and beautiful light when you were in her presence. Arturo, John, Faith, Christina and Brad, my heartfelt condolences to you and your families. I think Leonard Cohen said it best -"there are cracks in everything, that's how the light gets in" during this difficult time, I know her light will continue to surround you for years to come.

Dear Eterna remains in the hearts of all our families and friends in Nova Scotia, the UK and New Zealand — since we first met her and Arturo and the Delos Reyes family and came to know her as an affectionate, always helpful family member and constant, loving support to Christina, John, Chelsea and Miles. She is known by her unselfish deeds, her wonderful hospitality and her unwavering religious beliefs. She will be remembered also by the permanent record of family events that she has left us through her excellent, professional photography. Dear Arturo and the Family, I share in the grief of all who came to know Eterna, and I know that she will live on through eternity by her selfless deeds and love for all of us whom she has left behind. With all my love, Fay.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said, "I am the resurrection and life, those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die" (John 11:25-26). Ate Eterna went to glory and now resting in the welcome arms of Jesus to hear, " well done my faithful servant." Our prayers and love Kuya Art, Faith and Brad, John and Christina, and all the grandchildren. Danny, Kathy, Hannah and Dan, Sarah and Andrew, Jonathan and Maura, Cecilia.
