En Memoria de Gladys Irene González Garrido “Agüe” 14 de junio de 1932 – 21 de julio de 2025
Con profundo amor y gratitud por su vida, compartimos que nuestra querida Gladys Irene González Garrido, a quien con ternura llamábamos Agüe, partió en paz el 21 de julio de 2025, a la edad de 93 años. Su alma ya se ha reunido con sus amados padres Pedro González y Zoila Garrido, y con su querido esposo, Nery Araya Brito, con quien compartió una vida de amor desde 1951.
Gladys nació el 14 de junio de 1932 en Quilpué, Chile. Siempre llena de energía, ternura y generosidad, dedicó su vida a servir a los demás y a cuidar con amor a su familia.
El 26 de noviembre de 1988, se trasladó junto a su esposo a Toronto, Canadá, iniciando una nueva etapa lejos de su tierra natal. Un año después, en diciembre de 1989, sufrió la pérdida de su amado Nery. Aun así, Gladys encontró consuelo en seguir ayudando a otros. Fue voluntaria durante muchos años en St. Michael’s Hospital, donde compartía incontables horas junto a otros voluntarios haciendo artesanías a mano para brindar apoyo y calidez a quienes lo necesitaban.
Antes de emigrar, también fue voluntaria activa en Chile, sirviendo con alegría y entrega en su farmacia en Olmué, como parte del Club de Leones, Cruz Roja, y colaborando siempre con amigos, vecinos y familiares. Su espíritu generoso y servicial era una parte esencial de quién era, una mujer dispuesta a ayudar sin esperar nada a cambio.
Fue una esposa amorosa, madre dedicada, hermana leal y amiga entrañable. Deja a sus tres hijos: Cecilia (junto a Orlando), Mario (junto a Hilda) y Eduardo (junto a Mónica); a sus nietos: Claudio (junto a Carola), Andrea (junto a Daniel), Cindy, Gabriel y Martín; y a sus bisnietos: Benjamín, Vanessa y Sebastián, quienes llenaron su vida de luz y alegría.
Gladys amaba tejer, las telenovelas, la música, y compartir sus vivencias. Sus historias de viaje, algunas preocupantes, muchas inolvidables y siempre contadas con humor, nos hicieron reír y nos unieron aún más a ella. Le encantaba visitar a su familia en Chile y en Estados Unidos, donde siempre fue recibida con amor.
Una misa en su honor se llevará a cabo el viernes 1° de agosto a las 18:30 horas en la Iglesia St. Paul’s Basílica, ubicada en 83 Power Street, Toronto. Posteriormente, Gladys será repatriada a Chile, cumpliendo así su deseo de regresar a la tierra que tanto amó.
Descansa en paz, querida Agüe, madre, tia y amiga. Te recordaremos siempre con dulzura, gratitud y amor eterno.

In Loving Memory of Gladys Irene González Garrido “Agüe”

With deep love and gratitude for her life, we share that our beloved Gladys Irene González Garrido, tenderly known as Agüe, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at the age of 93. Her soul has now reunited with her beloved parents Pedro González and Zoila Garrido, and with her dear husband, Nery Araya Brito, with whom she shared a lifetime of love since 1951.
Gladys was born on June 14, 1932, in Quilpué, Chile. Always full of energy, kindness, and generosity, she dedicated her life to serving others and lovingly caring for her family.
On November 26, 1988, she moved to Toronto, Canada, with her husband, beginning a new chapter far from her homeland. Just a year later, in December 1989, she suffered the loss of her beloved Nery. Even in grief, Gladys found comfort in continuing to help others. She volunteered for many years at St. Michael’s Hospital, spending countless hours with fellow volunteers creating handmade crafts to offer warmth and support to those in need.
Before emigrating, Gladys was also an active volunteer in Chile, joyfully and faithfully serving in her pharmacy in Olmué, as a member of the Lions Club, the Red Cross, and always offering her time and help to friends, neighbors, and family. Her generous and selfless spirit was a fundamental part of who she was, a woman always willing to help without expecting anything in return.
She was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, a loyal sister, and a cherished friend. She is survived by her three children: Cecilia (with Orlando), Mario (with Hilda), and Eduardo (with Mónica); her grandchildren: Claudio (with Carola), Andrea (with Daniel), Cindy, Gabriel, and Martín; and her great-grandchildren: Benjamín, Vanessa, and Sebastián, who filled her life with joy and light.
Gladys loved knitting, telenovelas, music, and sharing her stories. Her travel adventures, some worrisome, many unforgettable, and always told with humor, made us laugh and brought us closer to her. She loved visiting her family in Chile and the United States, where she was always warmly welcomed.
A funeral mass in her honor will be held on Friday, August 1st at 6:30 PM at St. Paul’s Basilica, located at 83 Power Street, Toronto. Afterward, Gladys will be repatriated to Chile, fulfilling her wish to return to the land she so dearly loved.
Rest in peace, dear Agüe, mother, aunt, and friend. We will always remember you with tenderness, gratitude, and eternal love.
