Obituary

Lena passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 16, 2022 after a short illness. She was big sister to Jean, Betty, June, and Buster. Loving wife of Joseph (deceased). Wonderful mother to Neil, daughter-in-law Ann MacKinnon, grandson Michael Taurozzi and adoring GG to Jackson.

Lena was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer earlier this year and continued to live her life with the same energy, joy, laughter, and friendships that brought her to her 91st year. Although only 4’8” (and a 1/2, always add the 1/2) she could be a force and was determined to live her remaining time with acceptance and without complaint.

Mom lost her life partner much too early, but she made it through that heartbreak and shone a bright light through our family gatherings and celebrations. As a son, I could not have asked for a more loving, supportive, and fiercely proud mother.

We (and mom) would like to express our deep gratitude to Dr. Risa Bordman for her skill, her friendship and for making sure mom made it to 91.

In accordance with her wishes there will be no formal service, but a Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, August 7th at Neil and Ann’s home, 218 Shaw Street in downtown Toronto from 2-5pm. Please contact Neil at [email protected] or 416-561-8085 if you would like more information.

Life goes on. Mom knew that and her only ask of you would be that when you next smile, or laugh out loud, that you think of her. She always loved a good laugh.

Lena was indeed a force of nature. She brought a bright and loving light to the celebrations we had with her and her family. We'll miss her enthusiasm for life and her warm hugs.
