Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on May 18th, 2023. Our mom, born on April 29th, 1930, in Vila Franca do Campo on the island of Sao Miguel, Azores Portugal, lived a life filled with love, laughter, and ever giving generosity.

Mom married on January 28th, 1961, and emigrated to Canada on April 12th, 1964, with her first-born Maria Connie who was 2yrs of age. Mom and dad moved to Canada for a better life. She immediately fell in love with Canada and everything about it. Canada became her forever home.

At a young age, she faced adversity when dad Antonio Costa passed away on April 2nd, 1969, leaving her to raise three children, ages 7, 4 and 2 on her own.

Mom was a devout Catholic and attended mass every Sunday while she could and then turned to watching the daily mass on TV twice a day. Her infectious personality, and no-nonsense attitude made her sassy, funny, and witty.

Mom was the matriarch of our family; she was an excellent cook and baker. She loved her garden. She cherished her family and had an unbreakable bond with her children while always making sure her grandchildren were taken care of.

Mom will be deeply missed but forever remembered as the queen of our hearts. We love you Mom, and may you rest in peace.

She is survived by her children: Maria Connie (Tony) Pandeirada, Ana Maria (Tony) Di Giacomo, Tony (Bernie) Costa. She also leaves behind her 8 grandchildren: Kristopher P, Evan P (Alex), Chantel P (Vince), Chloe D, Aaron D, Jacob C, Madison C, and Thomas C.

In honour of our dear mom’s memory, we kindly request that instead of sending flowers, you consider donating to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Friends may call at the Cardinal Funeral Homes (366 Bathurst Street, Toronto, Ontario)  Wednesday, May 24^th, 2023 from 2 – 4 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 3 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Parish (588 Adelaide Street West, Toronto, Ontario) Thursday, May 25^th, 2023 at 9:45 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill, Ontario).
