Obituary

Mrs. Maria da Conceição Araujo passed a way early on January 11, 2023 at the age of 97 from dementia. She was born in Ribeira Seca, São Miguel, Acores ,Portugal, on February 15, 1925 to her late parents, Jacinto and Isabel Feijo.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, José Augusto Rodrigues Araujo, infant son Manuel, and brothers and sisters, Manuel, Jacinto, Lourdes (d. 12 years), José, Fernando, Lourdes (d. infant), and Raulino.  She is survived by her son, José Feijo Araujo (Sheila), sister, Maria de Lourdes Luis (c. Alex), and grandchildren, Joseph (s. Heather, c. Joshua, Marcel, Brennan, and Joy) and Dale (s. Adriana, c. Ava, Michael, Andre and Gabriel).

After immigrating to Canada from Portugal in 1965, she opened house and home to her younger siblings and their families during their transition to Canadian life. She was a devote member of St. Mary’s Parish in Toronto. Her love of gardening was only surpassed by her love for God, family and cooking.

Funeral service will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at St. Mary’s Church (Bathurst and Adelaide) and visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on the preceding Tuesday evening at Cardinal Funeral Home (Bathurst St.).

Maria will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family, who suggest memorial  gifts may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada (https://alzheimer.ca/en/take-action/donate) or the Arthritis Society Canada (https://arthritis.ca/get-involved/ways-to-give/donate-online) in lieu of flowers.

Rest in peace with God, our beloved Mãe / Vovó / Bisavó – one day we’ll sit together at the table again.

Sra. Maria da Conceição Araujo faleceu na manha de 11 de janeiro de 2023, aos 97 anos, devido à demência.  Nasceu na Ribeira Seca, São Miguel, Acores, Portugal, em 15 de fevereiro de 1925, filha de Jacinto e Isabel Feijo falecidos.

Maria foi precedida de morte pelo marido, José Augusto Rodrigues Araujo, pelo filho bebé, Manuel, e pelos irmãos e irmas, Manuel, Jacinto, (Lourdes (f. 12 anos) José, Fernando, Lourdes (f crianca) e Raulino.   Sobreviveu ao seu filho, José Feijo Araujo (Sheila), à irmã, Maria de Lourdes Luís (c. Alex), e aos netos, Joseph (e. Heather, c. Joshua, Marcel, Brennan e Joy) e Dale (e. Adriana, c. Ava, Michael, Andre e Gabriel).

Depois de emigrar para o Canadá  em 1965, abriu  a sua casa e lar aos seus irmãos mais novos e às suas famílias durante a sua transição para a vida canadiana.  Era membro devotada da Paróquia de Santa Maria em Toronto. Seu amor pela jardinagem só foi ultrapassado pelo seu amor por Deus, família e de cozinhar.

O funeral será realizado às 9h45 de quarta-feira, 18 de janeiro de 2023, na Igreja de Santa Maria (Bathurst e Adelaide) e a visita será das 17h00 às 21h00 da noite de terça-feira anterior na Cardinal Funeral Home (Bathurst St.).

Maria será carinhosamente lembrada e tristemente sentida pela sua família, que sugere que os presentes em memória podem ser feitos à Sociedade de Alzheimer do Canadá (https://alzheimer.ca/en/take-action/donate) ou a Sociedade da Artrite Canadá (https://arthritis.ca/get-involved/ways-to-give/donate-online) em vez de flores.
