Obituary

God called Maria home peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on July 30, 2026. She is now reunited in Heaven with the love of her life, her beloved husband, Fernando Rego.

Maria leaves behind a family who will love and miss her forever: her sons, Jose (Laura), Fernando (Noemia), Luis (Suzanne) Emmanuel, and Denis; her cherished grandchildren, Linda, Mark, Christina, Jenny, Christopher, Derek, and Kelly; and her precious great-grandchildren, Nathan, Nolan, Celina, Catrina, Marcus, and Mia.

Maria's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cared for those she loved with all her heart. She always put her family first, offering unconditional love, kindness, and support.

She found happiness in life's simple pleasures—shopping, searching for treasures at garage sales, spending peaceful days at her beloved cottage, and caring for her beautiful gardens. Her love of flowers was unmistakable, and her stunning flower garden in Crystal Beach was admired by all who visited.

Maria was also well known for her famous homemade Portuguese sausages. Her secret family recipe was adored throughout the Portuguese community in Toronto, with people coming from near and far to purchase her homemade sausages. Preparing them was truly a labour of love, and sharing them with others brought her great joy. Her delicious sausages became a cherished tradition and are one of the many ways she will be fondly remembered.

Maria will be remembered for her gentle heart, generous spirit, unwavering devotion to her family, and her unforgettable infectious giggle that could brighten anyone's day. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing she is at peace and reunited with those she loved.

She will be forever loved, forever remembered, and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Canadian Cancer Society, Kensington Hospice or West Neighbourhood House.
