Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maria de Fatima Janeiro da Cunha, who departed this life peacefully on November 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Maria was a cherished wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and Godmother, whose vibrant spirit and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved sisters, Eulalia Brinco, Conceição Lima, Virginia Pacheco (Eduardo), brother Francisco Arruda (Antonia), sister-in-law Roberta Arruda her many adoring nieces, nephews and cousins, and her treasured Godchildren Paula Abelha (Emanuel), Amelia Sherbanowski (Kevin), and Mark Pacheco (Maria), Debbie Bettencourt (Marcio), Valdemar Silva (Alma), Mario Arruda (Gina), Elizabeth Arruda (Linda), Danny Arruda (Mirella), all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts. Maria is predeceased by her beloved husband, Manuel da Cunha, her dear parents Francisco and Conceição Arruda, brother Jose Arruda, parents-in-law Luis and Maria Da Cunha, sisters-in-law Silvina Arruda, Maria Silva and brothers-in-law Raulino Brinco, Jose Lima, Humberto Arruda, and Manuel Silva. Born on March 23, 1946, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Maria was a talented seamstress, renowned for her skill and creativity. Her beautiful creations were a reflection of her passion and dedication, and she delighted in sharing her talents with family and friends. Each stitch she made was infused with love, leaving a lasting impression on those who wore her garments. Maria’s zest for life was evident in her love for dance. Whether at family gatherings or community events, she lit up the room with her joy and enthusiasm, encouraging everyone to join in the celebration. Her laughter and warmth brought people together, and her spirit will forever be remembered. A devoted member of the Graciosa Community Centre, Maria was actively involved in fostering cultural connections and creating a sense of belonging for many. Her commitment to her heritage and community was unwavering, and she inspired others to cherish and celebrate their roots. Her legacy of love, creativity, and community spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. Rest in peace, dear Maria. Your love will forever be woven into the fabric of our lives.
