Obituary

CABRAL, Maria Fatima (nee: Pereira) - it is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Maria at the age of 76 on Wednesday, December 16, 2021. Maria leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Antonio Goncalves, and her two loving daughters Elia and Elizabeth. Maria is predeceased by her parents Manuel Vieira and Maria dos Anjos, her brother Jose Domingos, and her sister Maria Guilhermina. Maria was born in the small town of Rabo de Peixe, San Miguel, Azores, Portugal on May 14th, 1945, and came to Canada in 1969. In 1973 Maria and Antonio married and they soon welcomed daughters Elia and Elizabeth. Her daughters were Maria’s pride and joy, and her absence will leave an irreparable hole in their hearts. A four-legged friend was added to the family when a cat named Spot was adopted. Maria and Spot were the best of friends, with Spot spending countless hours curled up on Maria’s bed. Spot will definitely miss all the treats Maria would sneak her when no one was watching. Maria was always ready to help anyone who needed a helping hand. Feeding those that couldn’t afford to feed themselves, either directly with food or through charities, was important to Maria, and in light of that, and in lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to a food bank of your choice. Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cardinal Funeral Home.
