Obituary

Maria Guiomar Machado peacefully passed away in her home on February 28th, 2024, in her 94th year.

She was the cherished wife of the late João Machado and daughter of the late Manuel de Sousa Pereira and Inocencia Julia Martins.

Maria Guiomar was a devoted mother to João Manuel (Lidia), Antonio (Eleanor), Maria Conceição (Miguel), and Joe (Kim).

Dearest grandmother to Debbie (Cormac), Kelly (Jude), Melissa, Jeffrey (Ayala), Sean (Tarah) and Millar.  Greatest great-grandmother to Abigail, Aidan, Eli, Ariana and Lila.

Originally from Livramento, São Miguel, Açores, Maria Guiomar relocated with her family to Toronto in 1974, where she remained deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and family.

To say she made an impact on the world around her would be an understatement. Her selflessness, care, and unwavering love extended to all she encountered, leaving a profound impact with her kindness and warmth.

Maria Guiomar was an excellent cook who baked the best Massa hands down. She loved to prepare and serve a banquet of delicious foods for her family and friends.

An amazing storyteller, she always brought a kind of wonder to the stories she'd tell of days gone by and of people she knew. She had a love for music and poetry, and her verses and singing at family gatherings will be missed immensely.

While her earthly departure has left us all with a deep void in our lives, Maria Guiomar's legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family. May she rest in peace in the arms of Our Father.

Machado and Cabral Families, I am so very sorry for your loss. I never knew my grandmothers, but was fortunate that Vavo welcomed and treated me like one of her grandkids, and for that, I will always be grateful. May she rest in peace.
