Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother; Maria Jose Sousa, at the age of 71 on November 17th, 2023.

Maria Jose was born in Sao Miguel, Acores to Jose and Elvira Almeida, and was the youngest of two children. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 8 with her mother and brother, Domiciano to reunite with their father who had come in pursuit of a better life for them all.  Maria Jose was a talented and adept person with an endless number of hobbies and interests that allowed her true creative nature to shine through.  There was nothing she could not do.  Family was paramount in her life, and she was happiest when she was able to bring everyone together over one of her divine home-cooked meals.  Maria Jose was also a devoted Catholic who lived her life in service of her faith.  She was a selfless caregiver to those around her throughout her life, including her parents, in-laws, children, grandchildren, relatives, friends, neighbors, and countless others.  She will be dearly missed and remembered by all in her community for her generous heart and unwavering commitment to helping those in need.

Maria Jose is survived by her beloved husband (Gaudino) of 53 years, and will be lovingly remembered and missed by their four children: Helena (Emanuel), Jose (Nelcy), Gary (Dianne), and Robert, as well as her five treasured grandchildren: Laura, Kathryn, Anthony, Amanda, and Victoria.
She is the forever cherished "MOM" of Alan, Dani, and Milly.

The light of our lives has been extinguished.

My condolences to the whole family on a great loss. Sra. Maria Jose was the kindest hearted person you could ever meet. Family was everything to her and she touched the lives of so many people. She always looked out for all of us on the street as kids. I am sorry I was unable to make it to the funeral but I was away for work. May god help you all through this tough time. Sending everyone lots of hugs and blessings.
