Obituary

Peacefully in her 103rd year, on Sat April 27, 2024 Maria Myskiw passed away at the Lakeside Long Term Care Centre.
She was born on October 31, 1921 in Hdeszyci, Ukraine where she lived with her parents and siblings. During the war she was taken from her homeland to Germany. After the Second World War, she immigrated to Canada to start a new life. In Toronto she married and worked at the Royal York Hotel for over 30 years. In retirement she travelled back to Ukraine, to the United States, Cuba and Egypt.
Her home, where she resided for over 50 years, was a welcoming household. She would delight her friends and family with homemade pyrogies, walnut coffee cake and her famous apple crumble.
Maria was a devout Catholic who loved her family, friends and especially adored children. She celebrated their milestones with them by participating in baptisms, birthdays, communions and graduations.
Supporting numerous organizations was an important part of Maria's life. She was kind and cared for the wellbeing of others with generous donations. She especially supported the Ukrainian community by attending concerts and fundraising events on a regular basis.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Myhaylo and is survived by her extended family in Ukraine and the United States.
A heartfelt thank-you to the staff at the Lakeside Long Term Care Centre for their attentiveness and compassionate care.

Wishing all thoughts and condolences far our loss of one of the most welcoming souls we have met. With open arms Pani Marika did what we should all strive for, lived a life full of those she loved around her. Her house was always a place of gatherings, parties, family and friends where you were comfortable to talk about anything, take a nap and have a taste of Brandy. So many memories at that house and with Pani Marika, one that continues to come up for me is a more a Tableau, with her friends in their older age chatting at her dinning table, all laughing with a beautiful spread. When I reflect back on her life and how she impacted ours, that cements it best. Friends, food, family and friends. May you have peace and another laugh wherever you go. You will be missed Pani Marika.
