Obituary
Maria J. Oliveira was born on the day of love, February 14, 1930 in Biscoites, Azores. She met the love of her life and married our dad Carlos and their love created four cherished daughters. With her bravery, tenacity along with her husband and daughters migrated to California for 5 years and then too took a bigger leap of faith moving to the big north Canada which became their permanent residence. God called up Maria J. Oliveira on Saturday November 14, 2020 at the age of 90. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Carlos, her daughter Arline and her cherished son-in-law Francois and great grand son Niko. Cherished by her dear children. Susan, (Ricky)Manuela (Gary) and Lucia (Deceased Francois) Very proud grandmother to David, Christina (Denny) Kevin (Tracey), Daniel (Cristina), Johnny, Patricia (Anthony), Katrina (Joshua), Jesse (Vanessa), Stephanie (John) and Melissa (Matt). Great Grandmother to, Sofie, Anthony, Chelsea, Kaliyah, Sienna, Mason, Julius, Jordyn, Athena, Valentina and Summer. Our mother will be most remembered for being the beloved Avo, by her family and her friends who became her family. Our mother was very relevant to the times, she was humorous, she was creative, she was clairvoyant and could read into the future of those closest to her sharing encouraging advice. She enjoyed crocheting and would make handmade slippers for family and friends. She was a chef in her own right with the ability to fuse the Portuguese Canadian culture to the Dinner table often. In her spare time, she became a bingo guru there wasn’t a trip that she didn’t attend and was proud of any winnings big or small and shared it generously with her loved ones. Our Mother enjoyed traveling with her seniors’ group and was fortunate enough to travel to, Atlantic City, Chicago, New York City, Myrtle Beach for dance competitions and was even able to witness her Granddaughter Katrina performing on the Royal Caribbean. She was blessed to attend two destinations weddings Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Our mom always spoke fondly how honoured she was to attend the weddings of all her grandchildren. Our mother was always excited to travel to New Brunswick to visit Susan and Ricky for bonding time and creating memories. One of the fondness characteristics of our mother that we will treasure although she was widowed at a young age and missed and mourned our father in black, it never dimmed her matriarch leadership qualities of love, patience and laughter. Her legacy of love and tolerance will live on forever as she taught us all well the best ingredient of life is love and family. Rest well in paradise Mom/Avo we love you!Due to the current pandemic restrictions and under direction from our regulator, the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, effective November 14, 2020 all funerals and visitations will be by invitation only to limit the number of people in attendance and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
