Mrs. Maria Rodrigues

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Rodrigues, our beloved mother, wife and sister.

Maria was the daughter of the late Guilherme and Maria Justina Rodrigues. She was the loving wife of Mauricio Sarmiento, adoring mother of Justina Sarmiento and Cassandra Sarmiento, and caring sister of Vasco Rodrigues.

She was deeply loved and cherished by her husband, Mauricio and her two daughters, Justina and Cassandra. It was an absolute honour to be Maria’s daughters and she will be sorely missed. She was the best mother in the world and she made her daughters feel special, loved and supported everyday. Our mother made birthdays and holidays memorable occasions full of laughter and joy.

Maria was a very loving, caring, compassionate and generous person who always helped those in need. Her sense of humour was unforgettable and her innate ability to comfort her loved ones was unparalleled. Maria was well-spoken, very intelligent, fierce, hard-working and devoted to making the world a better place.

She was an advocate for women’s rights, workers’ rights, and a school trustee who represented the best interests of the students in Toronto.

Maria’s legacy of compassion and her unwavering dedication to justice will always be remembered.

Maria was a lifelong learner who loved to read and truly appreciated music, film and art.

Her family and friends are devastated. They will always carry Maria’s memory in their hearts. Maria’s strength of spirit, love and hope for the future will be cherished forever.
