Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michela Assunta Leparulo Fierro.
Michela was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Fierro; mother to Joe (Janice) and Aldo (Rebecca); nonna to Lexie, Anthony (Willow), Jenna, Michela, and Luca; sister, cousin, and aunt to cherished family in Italy; and a treasured neighbour and friend to many in Toronto’s Little Italy.
Michela was born in Cervinara, Italy, a quiet mountain town in the Campagnia region, which she continued to describe in vivid detail into her nineties, particularly her prized chestnut trees. Michela and Antonio made Canada their home in the 1960s, but she remained deeply connected to her hometown and her Italian heritage, instilling in her children and grandchildren a great appreciation of their culture. She and her husband worked tirelessly to give their children every opportunity, and Michela was proud to share that all five of her grandchildren were university-educated.
Family was of utmost importance to Michela, and she generously shared her love in the form of countless homemade Sunday lunches enjoyed around her dining room table, often featuring beautiful ingredients she had grown herself in her expertly tended, jungle-like back garden. She was also a dedicated parishioner of St Francis of Assisi and a fixture of Mansfield Avenue, where she could often be seen cheerfully waving at passers-by from her front window.
Michela was able to spend her last few years at home, thanks in great part to the loving care given her by Marta Caceres, for which her family is eternally grateful. Recently predeceased by her younger brother and best friend, Michele, her passing was perhaps unsurprising, but as anyone who met her could attest to, her strength was formidable, and we hoped she’d live forever.
Riposa in pace, Bella. Ci mancherai tanto.
Riposa in pace, Bella. Ci mancherai tanto.
