It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Paulina Augusta Rodrigues Ficher, our loving mother and Avó. After a prolonged battle with Alzheimers disease she passed away peacefully in her 93rd year with family by her side at Kensington Gardens, her home for 6 and a half years.

Paulina was the most caring and selfless person who always was doing for others and putting family first. She always worked hard as a cleaner in the evenings but mostly loved taking care of her grandkids. She so lovingly took care of Suzy and Andrea, Michael, Daniel and her (last baby) Jordan, (os pequenos) her pequenos that she so lovingly picked up from school daily and loved to take on her daily neighborhood trips to grocery stores, Dufferin Mall, Church (St. Sebastian and St. Anthony), and the Scotiabank where she has friends for many years as she lived in her same house at 398 Margueretta St. for almost 50 years until dementia started robbing her of her memory. In fact Paulina was so well known in the St. Sebastian school community as the loving Grandma who was always there to pick up her grandkids as she had done with her own kids and probably had the record for over 40 continuous years of school pickups! In fact it was her "pequenos" who ensured she got safely home in the end as Alzheimers started robbing her of her memory! She was born in Biscoitos, Terceira, Açores on Oct. 3rd, 1930. She married her love José Pereira Ficher in Biscoitos and they would later immigrate to Toronto, Canada in June 1971. She loved music, learning to play guitar, singing (beautiful voice)and sewing (embroidery) for supplemental income that she would save up to purchase things like her radio and clothing for her children. Paulina was always the loving, caring and totally selfless person who would always give food off her own plate if kids seemed hungry ! She loved cooking for her family who would often gather after church on Sundays and special occasions to have her famous "canjinha" (chicken soup) and other delicious cooking!
Dear Mom, Grandma and Great-grandma, you are a great part of us, an angel now up in heaven but always living in our hearts here! We love you dear Mom. May God keep you in his loving care and smiling upon us 🙏 ❤️
