Obituary

After several years of illness and many difficult health challenges, Zita Nodilo passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at the age of 86, having fought courageously until her final moments.

Born in Babine Kuče on the Island of Mljet, Croatia, Zita spent most of her life in Canada while remaining deeply devoted to her Croatian heritage, traditions, and spirit. Through hard work, determination, and independence, she built a life of which she was immensely proud. She worked for many years at Dimpflmeier bakery and lovingly maintained her home, of which she was proud of.

Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She loved attending church and cherished her connections within the Croatian community. She took great pride in preserving her cultural traditions through friendship, family gatherings, and her passion for cooking. Her warmth and hospitality were reflected in every meal she prepared and every person she welcomed into her home.

Zita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Petar Nodilo, also born in Polače on the Island of Mljet, Croatia; her parents, Nikola and Nike Vojvoda; and her brothers, Vinko and Vlado Vojvoda.

She leaves behind her loving children, Steve (Stjepan) Nodilo and Denise (Danica) Nodilo, who will forever cherish her memory. She is also lovingly remembered by her nephew and nieces in Croatia, Niko, Nives, Ivana, and Ruža, along with their families.

Zita will be remembered for her outgoing and friendly nature, her kindness, warmth, unwavering faith, endless generosity, and strong moral compass. She found great happiness in cooking, gardening, caring for her family, and sharing her traditions with those she loved. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her and leaves behind a legacy of resilience and compassion.

Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, caregivers, neighbors, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with all her loved ones who have gone before her.
