Obituary
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our devoted mother, wife, loving grandmother and great grandmother, cherished sister, favourite aunt, and a dear friend, Ann Josephine Darling nee, Donovan on May 16, 2026.
Born in Nova Scotia, to George and Agnes Donovan, sister to Richard, Georgina, Wilena, Catherine and brother Edwin. Her independent spirit shone early. At just 18 years old, she set out beginning a journey that would shape a remarkable life filled with courage and adventure.
Settling in Montreal for a period, she met her husband, Lou Darling, they later moved to Toronto, where they raised their two children, Michelle and Robert.
After her marriage ended, she embraced life with the same strength and openness that defined her. She found lasting love and companionship with her partner Frankie with whom she shared many joyful decades.
She was a woman larger than life. Known for her extraordinary generosity, her sharp sense of humour, and her unmistakable feisty spirit, she brought warmth, laughter, and comfort to everyone around her. She had a gift for making people feel seen, welcome and cared for, and her presence left a lasting impression wherever she went.
She was fiercely independent and ahead of her time. She owned and operated her own taxi-cab — a testament to her determination, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit. She worked hard, stood strong, and lived life entirely on her own terms.
She also knew how to enjoy every moment. Whether she was at the races, playing bingo, or trying her luck at the casino, she lived life to the fullest. She especially loved her trips to Las Vegas and Nashville, where her vibrant spirit and sense of adventure truly shone, creating cherished memories filled with laughter and joy.
Above all, her greatest pride and joy was her family. She loved deeply and unconditionally, and her legacy continues through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her humour, and her unwavering love. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and never forgotten.
Predeceased by her parents, daughter Kali-Ann, brother Richard, sisters Georgina (George Gallant) and Wilena (Bud McKenzie), Brother-in- law Jack MacNeil. Left to mourn is her partner Frankie, her siblings, Catherine MacNeil, Edwin Donovan (Ida), her children, Robert Darling and Michelle Darling, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She will be missed by her cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
