Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Carol Evril Salkey (Dimple), a beloved mother, sister, cousin, aunt, niece, and friend.
Carol was born on October 13, 1945, to Eileen (Lyn) Salkey (née Stephenson) and Randall Livingston Salkey in New Green, Mandeville, Jamaica. A vibrant member of a large and loving family, she is survived by her siblings Vinton, Earl, Audley, and Lester, and is predeceased by Ral, Binny, Sonia, Jas, and Seton. She is also survived by her daughter, Nicole, along with countless other family members and friends.
In her early twenties, Carol emigrated to Toronto, Canada, where she led a full life grounded in faith and a passion for learning. With her trademark tenacity, she balanced raising her daughter with careers in hospital administration and ESL education, while also completing her degree in Political Science at York University. She was an active member of many church communities, including Immanuel Baptist Church, The Peoples Church, and St. Bonaventure’s Parish.
She danced lithely, laughed loudly, and loved fiercely –– and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In honour of Carol’s memory, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, where she received excellent care in her final days.
