Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Caterina “Cathy” Ceniti at the age of 58. Cathy will be deeply missed by her family, friends and the many people whose lives she touched through her work and her generous spirit.

Cathy is survived by her mother, Maria; her brothers, Frank (Vicky) and their sons, Alexander and Gianluca; Joe (Heidi) and his sons, Jordan (Pauline), Jacob (Ola) and their sons Nicco and Rome; Vincenzo (Julie) and their daughter, Sofia; and her sister, Rose (Maurice), and their daughters, Melissa (Alex) and Danielle.

Throughout her life, Cathy had a remarkable instinct to care for others. Whether through her work, her family, her friendships or the causes and communities she cared about, she gave generously of herself and was always looking for a way to help.

Cathy spent more than 20 years with the City of Toronto, working in social work in a variety of roles. She was deeply committed to the people she served - always putting the person first, advocating for others and finding ways to make a difference.

Following her early retirement from the City and the loss of her father, Salvatore, Cathy moved home to support her mother. For the next decade, caring for her mother became one of the most important expressions of her love for her family. She gave her time, energy and unwavering presence without hesitation, and her family will be forever grateful for all she did.

Cathy began a second career as the office administrator at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, a place that became an important part of her life. She gave herself wholeheartedly to the parish and to the people who came through its doors. Parishioners knew they could turn to Cathy. She listened, she remembered, she helped, and if there was something she could do to make things happen, she would do her best to make it happen. She became a familiar and much-loved presence at the church, and her absence will be felt deeply by the parish community.

As a daughter and sister, Cathy was a force of nature. She was fiercely loyal and put her family at the heart of everything she did. Cathy was the one who knew exactly who that third cousin was in some remote Italian village. She somehow kept track of everyone and was always up to date on the details of our lives. More importantly, she cared enough to reach out - to check in, to celebrate our victories, and to stand beside us with unwavering support through the difficult times. Cathy loved her family deeply, and that love was felt just as deeply in return by her siblings and mother.

As an aunt, Cathy was beloved and devoted to her seven nieces and nephews. Filling their lives with love, support and countless cherished memories. She took a genuine interest in their lives and was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer guidance or share a good laugh. Cathy remembered the little things that mattered most, making each niece and nephew feel valued and special. Her warmth, kindness and love will leave a lasting imprint on their hearts that they will carry with them always.

As a friend, Cathy was cherished. She had a gift for bringing people together and making people feel welcome. She was kind, deeply loyal and loving. A trusted confidant. Her altruistic goodness made you feel safe, comforted and supported. You knew you were always in her thoughts, in her prayers and close to her heart.

And then there were the things Cathy loved. She was a devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan, an enthusiastic U2 fan and a passionate Formula One follower. She embraced the things she loved wholeheartedly, with the same enthusiasm and loyalty she brought to the people in her life.

Cathy’s life was defined not by what she had, but by what she gave. She gave her time, her attention, her loyalty, her humour and, above all, her heart. She was a constant presence for the people she loved and a source of comfort, laughter and support to so many.

Cathy leaves behind a family and a community made better by having known her. She will be remembered with immense love and gratitude, and her absence will be felt in countless ways - in her family, at St. Francis of Assisi, among her friends and in all the places where her generous spirit made a difference.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly invites donations in Cathy’s memory to St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

It is with great sadness that I must write this note of condolence to the Ceniti family. Cathy and I met in high school and she welcomed me into “the gang”. She and I quickly became friends and remained so through the decades. We did not see each other as often as we would have liked, but we always connected through a text, an email, or a voice message for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, or just to say “I’m thinking of you, let’s catch up”. Whenever we did speak or got together, it never seemed like any time passed. We would just pick up where we left off. That is real friendship. Cathy was the glue for me in The Gang. She always kept me up to date on the happy things that were happening with others. Inviting me to reunions, brunches, and birthday celebrations. I am so grateful to have recently reconnected with my high school friends, and that was all thanks to my beautiful Cathy. I will miss you, Cat. You will alway have a place in the fondest part of my heart. ❤️ Our deepest sympathies, Vincent Chan & Phil Dennis

It was so shocking and sad to hear of the passing of Cathy (or sometimes 'Cat'). She was such a dear friend to me. She was always loyal and trustworthy. We met when she arrived at the Yonge/Eglinton Social Services office. We connected immediately; walks, lunches, and laughter. Supporting each other through all of life's ups and downs - work, family and friends. Cathy was always sharing the latest trends in wellness, exercise equipment, food, skin products and supplements, along with up-to-date info. on all the newest restaurants. We were vulnerable with each other and could laugh and cry together, we both cherished the gift of mutual trust. I was so proud of her overcoming challenges and her gift to share her light with anyone who asked. In 2020, our family moved to Victoria, BC and Cathy sent me packing with books and pendants for safety. We continued to talk every few months for the last six years; it didn't matter how long the conversation was, we always ended by giving thanks for our friendship and acknowledging our blessings. Cathy, you will be dearly missed. May God keep you until we meet again. ♥️ My sincerest condolences to all of her family and loved ones. Linda MacAulay

Our dear, sweet friend, It is hard to believe that we will no longer hear your laugh or see your beautiful smile. You are the only person I know who shared my exact birth date, it feels like you have always been a part of my life. You were the only one from our old gang who was with me through every grade from 3 to 8 at Grace & Givins. You met my family at SickKids when my sister Rita was there at the same time as you. Somehow, you were always around. Then came our travels together to Wasaga, Rhode Island, and Paris. Again, you were always there. The game night reunions at Chris's, Cil's, Pina's, or my house will never be the same without you. We always expected you to be around. You were the biggest fan of the Leafs and the Jays, and later in life, you developed a passion for Formula 1 and tennis. I especially loved how devoted you were to your mom, and how you got her excited about watching a rising Italian tennis star.e They say you would always remember where you were when you hear about the passing of someone famous. We were gathered for a game night at your new Yonge Street condo when we heard the tragic news about Princess Diana's passing. When we learned of your passing - far too soon - it brought back that same feeling of shock and sadness. Once again, we felt we had lost a princess. The angels in heaven are fortunate now. They will get to spend time with you, listen to your stories, and enjoy your wonderful sense of humour and observations. Goodbye for now. You will be greatly missed until we meet again. We will continue to carry you with us because you will never be forgotten. With love, Your fellow Calabrian Pisan, Carlo

To Cathy's family, our deepest condolences. No words are found to express the loss of Cathy. Through the St. Francis Parish and Immaculate Conception Parish there was always a deep connection. If we were lost and did not know something or if she needed anything. Cathy was always there for you, no matter how busy she was, she always had the time and patience to deal with anything. You will truly be missed. Rest in Peace.

To the Cathy's family, may her memory forever be a blessing. Cathy and I became friends in 1993 and that friendship stood the test of time when I moved across the country. She truly cared about everyone she knew and if she was your friend, your family became cared for by Cathy and Cathy became part of your family; she came to our family seder and fit right in. She was such a great listener that heard you and shared so much sympathy and empathy with her friends. She had a great sense of humour and liked to have fun. I can hear her laugh still. Please reach out to me if you would like some photos of Cathy and I when she came to visit Vancouver Island. We had wonderful times. Such a honour to have Cathy as friend and be loved by her.

To the Ceniti Family, please accept my deepest condolences on behalf of me and my family, the Peterkin's. There are no words that can truly express the depth of this loss, and I know this heartbreak cannot be healed overnight. May sweet Cathy rest in peace. My beautiful friend Cathy, I have known you since high school, and I feel incredibly blessed to have had you in my life all these years. From our teenage days to the many chapters that followed, you remained a constant and treasured friend. You had such a beautiful warmth about you. Your kindness, empathy, and genuine love for others made people feel seen, heard and cared for. You always seemed to know when someone needed a listening ear, a comforting word, or simply a friend by their side. And then there was your incredible sense of humour and that wonderful laughter that could brighten any moment. You brought so much joy and fun into my life, and some of the most cherished memories are the moments when we laughed together until we couldn't stop. Cathy, you were truly a gift to me. I will forever treasure our friendship, the memories we made, the laughter we shared, and all the moments that made life a little brighter simply because you were in it. My heart is broken that you are no longer here, but I'm so grateful for every year, every memory and every moment that I was lucky enough to call you my friend. You will always have a special place in my heart, and I will carry your warmth, kindness, humour and beautiful spirit with me always. I love you Cathy. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Until we meet again, my beautiful friend. With all my love, Sue xo

My heart hurts for your great loss. I met Cathy at St Francis of Assisi. We worked side by side as i prepared my transition out. Each morning was met with a huge welcome smile. Always so positive and warm. A quick learner and loyal employee. I loved our chats and learning much from her on health. She remains a bright star in this world and above. Much love and may she rest in Gods peace.

To the Ceniti family, My deepest and heartfelt condolences to each of you. I was truly shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Cathy’s passing. It is difficult to find the right words to express how much her loss has touched me. I first came to know Cathy through St. Francis of Assisi Parish. As I work at St. Patrick’s Church, Cathy would often call me when she needed help or when she needed a priest to preside at one of the Masses. Those calls, which began through our work with the Church, eventually became something much more meaningful. We stayed in touch outside of work and, over time, became friends. Cathy had such a beautiful love for the Church and for her faith. She had a wonderful way of recognizing and counting her blessings, even in the midst of life’s challenges. I will always remember her kindness, her warmth, and the genuine care she had for others. She was someone who touched my life, and I am very grateful that our paths crossed. I will miss Cathy terribly. Her presence, her friendship, and those conversations we shared will remain in my heart. I feel blessed to have known her and to have called her my friend. Please know that I am keeping Cathy and all of you in my prayers. May God welcome Cathy into His loving arms and grant her eternal rest, and may He give all of you strength, comfort, and peace during this very difficult time. With deepest sympathy, love, and prayers,

So sad to hear about Cathy. When I transferred to Harbord CI from Central Tech. Cathy, Cristina, Pina, Lucilio, JJ and Amelia welcomed me into their Group and made me feel welcome and a part of the group. I will always remember Cathy for her sense of humour, kindness and empathy for others. We lost track of each other over the years. But whenever we would meet at Cristina’s and Claudio’s house, it was as though no time had passed. I Miss her so much already. I Loved her as a friend and I will never forget the times we spent at Harbord or elsewhere. I Love You Cathy. I’ll never forget you. One day we’ll meet again on the other side.

My heart is broken. There are simply no words to express the shock and devastation of losing someone so extraordinarily special. Cathy and I met in grade 7 and through all the years that followed, and all that life brought our way, we maintained a friendship that lasted five decades. I feel incredibly blessed to have had her friendship for all those years and to have shared so much of life with her. She was truly one of the most wonderful human beings I have ever known. Thoughtful in a way that was rare, endlessly loving, and always there when you needed her. She had a way of making you feel cared for, remembered, and important. She was the kind of friend one is incredibly fortunate to find even once in a lifetime. It is unfathomable to think that she is gone. It is devastating to imagine that I will no longer hear her voice, receive one of her texts, or wake up to one of her beautiful birthday messages. There are so many little things that suddenly feel impossible to imagine living without. I will miss her more than words can ever say, and I will carry her friendship and her memory in my heart for the rest of my life. My deepest condolences and all my love to the Ceniti family. I am holding you close in my thoughts and sending you strength through this heartbreaking time. With love and a broken heart, Irene Santos
