Obituary
Surrounded by love and beautiful music, Elizabeth passed away as she had lived—gently and peacefully.
An artist at heart, Elizabeth brought beauty to every family celebration, marking life’s moments with creations lovingly made by her hands. She had a gift for knowing what would make an occasion feel special and then quietly making it so: knitting tender baby sweaters that wrapped new lives in warmth and welcome; arranging flowers and embellishing dresses that transformed weddings into works of art; and adding thoughtful details that made each important event feel deeply personal. In the spirit of Elsie De Wolfe’s words, “I am going to make everything around me beautiful—that will be my life,” Elizabeth lived this philosophy without fanfare, expressing love through colour, texture, and care. Her talents were never about display, but about devotion—making people feel seen, celebrated, and cherished. Through her hands, milestones became memories, and ordinary moments were elevated into something lasting.
Even in the face of serious illness, Elizabeth met each day with the same courage and grace that defined her life, continuing to give of herself in spirit when strength allowed. She leaves behind a legacy shaped by faith, love, and devotion to her family—a life beautifully lived and generously shared.
Elizabeth lives on in the hearts of her children, Darlene Shelley (Jeffrey), Shawn, Shannon (Alrek), as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers and extended family.
The Murphy family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Toronto Grace Health Centre. Their gentle presence and tender care were a blessing of compassion and kindness that will remain with the family always.
