Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected  passing of Jackie Pozenel on Saturday July 24, 2021 at the age of 51.

Jackie was a Registered Nurse that spent her earlier career in labor and delivery; later working at the UHN Toronto Western Hospital Emergency Department  and Princess Margaret Hospital outpatient oncology. Jackie had a reputation for being compassionate, caring, and showing empathy to the most vulnerable of patients she cared for. Certified as an Occupational Health Nurse, Jackie most recently worked at the Toronto Police Service supporting the police force during the Pandemic.

Over and above her career accomplishments, Jackie was an honest soul; she led with her heart, and was always willing to help others. She was someone that you could rely on and trust. Jackie was also a huge animal lover and advocate for adopting and finding them new homes. She loved to travel and visited many places  around the world, loved adventure and live entertainment, but don't forget  her wacky sense of humor as well.

Jackie is beloved sister to Matt, beloved step-mom to Brittany and  grandma to Carmyn and Caydence. Jackie leaves behind family in Toronto, Louisiana, and Slovenia. Jackie will be missed deeply.

Service will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home on Saturday August 7, 2021  from 10am - 1pm

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PAWS ABOVE or Toronto Humane society

Due to the current Covid - 19 restrictions in Toronto that allow a maximum number of guests to attend a funeral, the service details will be kept private and attendance will be by invite-only.

The family thanks you for your support and understanding during this challenging time.

My deepest condolences to Jackie's family on this most sorrowful loss. Jackie was a devoted nurse, and a friend and anchor to many. We worked the ED together for a number of years. Jackie's humour, optimism and zest for life will remain foremost in my memories of her. It was lovely seeing all the pictures of Jackie through her life. Dear Matt, family and friends of Jackie Jackie was an amazing person. She touched everyone around her. She was such a warm and beautiful person. She always had a glowing smile and was a happy camper that was for sure. Such a loving young lady who went out of her way to make sure everyone was doing good and well looked after. From patients to people to animals especially dogs she made sure we were all well. Her heart was always in the right place all the time. She talked endlessly about her Step Daughter Brittney 💓and her grandkids💖. Her bond with her brother Matt was like a knotted shoelace 💕💞 😊so strong, perfect example about sibling love. Still to this day cannot believe you are not here with us. We all know you are looking at us from the Heavens. One more Angel, miss you 🙌 Thank you for being you.

Matt, my sincere condolences to you and your family for the loss of Jackie. She was an amazing person and good friend. She will be remembered by so many including me. I will miss her heart and passion and humour. Please keep in touch and let me know how you and Mav are doing. Come visit us on the East Coast! “Words cannot express the sadness I feel losing you Jackie. You gave your heart and soul to the people you loved. You were a protector of all animals, a defender of the underdog and passionate about your beliefs. You had a unique sense of humour which always had me laughing - it was never diluted - I so loved that about you. Although we started out as “dog friends”, you became a dear friend over the years. Your care and love for my mom was so lovely and beautiful. Your care of Maggie and Maverick was a joy to watch, I will watch over your boy Mav, I promise. I’m so sad you didn’t get the chance to come to St John’s like we planned, I know you would have loved it here and would have enjoyed the rugged beauty and the peace I feel living here. I hope you are at peace, I miss you so much my friend. I love you.”

I met Jackie as part of a group of dog owners at Cedarvale Park. She was a great joy to be around. Funny and compassionate. She helped us when we needed it. They don't make many like Jackie. I'm glad I met her. My condolences to you and your family.

Dear Matt, I want to tell you that of all the talks Jackie and I had at work and at dinner or the pub, your sister mentioned you often in the most loving and endearing way. She spoke of you as a sister and mother and friend would speak about their loved one. Know that you brought joy to her life as did her step-daughter and grandbaby/s. She spoke kindly of her ex-husband as well. She was a solid, fun and trustworthy friend to me always. Heartfelt condolences to you, her family and all who are feeling the loss of a truly unique and beautiful soul that was Jax.
