Ms Maria Alice Capela

Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Maria Alice Capela announces her passing on September 21, 2026, at the age of 82. Alice, beloved daughter of Guilhermina Capela and Isidoro Augusto, is survived by her daughter, Maria Paula Capela.

A proud Canadian, nee in Portugal, lived and worked in France and Spain; Alice spoke five languages (English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian) and was very grateful for the cultural heritage these experiences afforded her and greatly enriched her life.

Early on in her schooling she learned Latin and kept this knowledge to the end. A published poet, talented artist, beautiful singer, incredible cook and elegant host. Alice had a generous and forgiving spirit. She was patient, understanding and always an optimist. Throughout her life she worked as an au-pair, a travel agent, and later as a dental assistant. Alice never married, and shared her life with many friends and family, including her daughter Paula, and many family pets - beloved dogs, Coti and Nico, and adored cat, Misha. Alice loved to read and there was always music in her home. She was a great supporter of the arts and enjoyed going to concerts and the theatre. While artistically inclined, she had a clever mind and often tweaked gadgets when the need arose.

She was a kind and gentle soul, breaming with talent, who was able to succeed in any task and yet always humble. Alice was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Family and close friends will gather for a celebration of life in the near future.
