Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Maria Margarida, at the age of 88, at Kensington Gardens in Toronto.

Margarida was truly a force of nature.  She left her home in Ginetes, Sao Miguel, Portugal, with three children in 1968 to meet her husband Manuel in Toronto, hoping to carve out a new life in Canada.  Widowed at a young age in 1974, now with four children and living in a new country, she worked hard, she persevered and she thrived and made a wonderful home for her children, and eventually welcomed her children's spouses happily.  The happiest times of her life were spent in the company of her many friends and especially her family, her four children, six grandchildren and eventually four beautiful great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind to grieve her loving brother Jose Alexandre Cordeiro and his wife Ana, daughter Maria (John), son Joe (Nan) and son Walter (Karen), having been predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth in 2012.  Also forever missing their Avo are grandchildren Jessica Meneses, Jonathan Meneses, Christopher Medeiros (Carly), Nicole Medeiros (Kelly Jackson), Meaghan Medeiros (Andrew Dion) and Daniel Medeiros (Anna), and missing their Bisavo are great-grandchildren Mia Medeiros, Hazel Dion, Leo Medeiros and Joey Medeiros, as well as the many friends and extended family members she loved so much.

A strong, proud, generous woman, she will be truly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
