To the Shirt Family: I am so saddened to hear about Grandmother Pauline's passing. Her wisdom and grace were an inspiration to me and everyone at the Canadian Opera Company. I will miss her terribly. May you find comfort in each other, and in the knowledge that Pauline's enduring legacy lives on.

Several months ago I tried to contact Pauline through George Brown College. I am sorry I waited too long. Your mother and your family were very important to me. I am so sorry for your loss and I know

Grandma Pauline at George Brown College's Indigenous Initiatives department didn't just lead our team; she illuminated our path with her wisdom. Hosting cultural sessions and speaking at our Festival yearly, she embodied inspiration for all who crossed her path. Her kindness, compassion, and patience legacy will forever steer us forward. To Luana, the Shirt family, and all who held Grandma Pauline dear, our sincerest condolences. May cherished memories and her advocacy for Indigenous voices, language revival, and understanding provide comfort. Let us honour her by embracing care, empathy, and kindness, echoing her teachings: ᐋᐧᓭᔮᐤ ᐸᐢᑭᔮᑫᐤ (wâsêyâw paskiýâkêw) - "Light Will Win." She often urged us to "Show it with the work." May we uphold her legacy by living out those words.

Pauline was an incredible influence on my life, how I raised my family and approached my work. She was always just a phone call or visit away and shared her gifts with such generosity. We attended the sacred fire and could feel the beauty of her legacy which remains. We extend our condolences to her family, extended family and will walk with those who continue her vision for the good life.

I met Pauline at Dodem Kenonsha years ago. We chatted and she did ceremony a couple of times at my employer. Clayton came once also.
My daughter worked with her at OFIFC.
We were at her sacred fire Thursday. Thank you for this.

Though I have not had the privilege to meet her in person, her legacy of starting Wandering Spirit School along with late Elder Vern Harper has made a lasting impact throughout the TDSB. I want to thank Elder Shirt and her family for sharing their teachings with those within the TDSB and creating a ripple effect of learning and reconciliation with the Indigenous community. It is with deep sadness I process the loss I feel of Pauline’s passing. She welcomed me with open arms and heart. She shared her beautiful teaching with me. Encouraged me to be a helper for all communities, introduced me to the Elders council many years ago. Over the years she has supported the work I do for community. My heart goes out to all her family members and community. I thank her for all her tireless work she did to make change and make life better for all of us.
