Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Reuben Alexander Lynch, who left us peacefully on April 14, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at Toronto General Hospital. He was 70 years old.

Beloved partner of Joanne (Joni) Alexander, devoted brother of Jean, Kenfield (Shirley), Gerwood, and Michael (Pamela). Predeceased by his brother Steve and parents Blanche (Jones) Lynch and Reuben Lynch Sr. Reuben will be dearly remembered by his nieces and nephew Sharon, Shalyne, Tanya, and Steven, cousins from the Jones, Batson, Thomas, Sealy, and Bills families, and many dear friends who became like family.

Born in Ville St. Michel, Montreal, Reuben lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and love. He found happiness in family gatherings, travelling, music, theatre, and enjoying a good story or joke with friends. A lifelong sports lover, he played hockey in his youth and later became an avid golfer who relished his time spent on the golf course.

Reuben built a successful career in finance and banking, primarily working for the Bank of Montreal (BMO) until his retirement. His early work experience with the bank was in Montreal and Winnipeg. He settled in the Toronto area in 1990 where he held a number of senior Banking Manager positions over the years. In addition to his formidable professional achievements, Reuben will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the lasting friendships he formed wherever he went. His warmth, humour, and positive spirit touched countless lives.

Visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street, Toronto on Tuesday, April 21 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, April 22 from 11:00 a.m. to1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life at the funeral home will follow from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., after which cremation will take place. A Reception will take place from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Reuben’s final resting place will be at the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery in Montreal. Internment and Celebration of Life in Montreal will take place at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff as well as the dialysis team at UHN for their exceptional care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Reuben’s exceptional joy, wisdom, and gentle spirit will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

To the entire Lynch family, Reuben was a special man indeed! He was my manager at BMO in the early 2000's when he ran Distribution Channel Operations and was one hardworking, caring & inquisitive guy. He shared much with me in the time he was my manager, mentor & coach that helped set me up for future success. I will miss his smile & openness. You have my sincere heartfelt thoughts & we will keep him alive in our memories.
