Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of Reverend Iwan Mak. Peacefully in his sleep, on February 1st, Iwan joined his predeceased sister, Iryna. Living a full life of over one hundred years, Iwan touched the lives of many parishioners and friends, always working hard to improve his many parishes, often in remote locations. He was born in Drohobych, Ukraine on July 6 1910. In 1948, Iwan was the first of his family to immigrate to Canada. He paved the way eventually for a large extended family in Canada which he always supported while continuing to support family which remained in Ukraine. On March 4th of this year otets Iwan was to have celebrated his 77th year of priesthood, of those 72 years as an active parish priest. Diadio Iwan’s presence will be sorely missed by his family: brother-in-law Stephan, nieces and nephews, Roksoliana with Oles, Kassandra with Paul, Oleh with Alena, Motria with Guy and Ihor with Olya, and great nieces and nephews Ksenia with Iain, Olenka, Ivanka, Oleksa, Tamara, Katrusia, Marko, Milan, Mica, Sasha, Oleh and Boyan and many loving family members in Ukraine, namely the families of Yuri and Bohdan Hrynchyshyn, and Vera Baisa. He will forever be an example to us of a pure and simple life, always serving and thinking of others. Parastas (funeral service) on Sunday 7-9 pm and Funeral Mass on Monday 10 am, both at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4 Bellwoods Ave. Internment at St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Oakville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation or charity of your choice. Vichna Jomu Pamiat’!
