Ostapa – Roman ( 1927 – 2010 ) Passed away at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto on Friday, October 29, 2010, beloved husband of Maria Krasij Jarema Ostapa. Dear father of Bohdan, Michael, Stefan, Wasyl, Natalka and Anna. Step father to Zenovy, Irene, Sylvia, Marie, Joseph, Christine, Helen, Lesia, Donna, JoAnn and Myron, Erie, PA Born in Kosmeran, Buchach, Ternopil region of Ukraine, Roman at the tender age of 17 left home to join the army as part of a Ukrainian Military Unit during WWII where he served with great courage in Ukraine, Slovakia and Yugoslavia, including three months on the front line. As the war ended, he spent 3 years in a POW/Work camp in Italy and later England, where he married then immigrated to Canada. Roman’s was an inspiring life story of immigration, hardship, personal sacrifice, courage, triumph, love and happiness! Respected and loved by all who came to know him. A heart as big as a house. Friends may call at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St., ( East of Keele ) on Sunday from 5 – 7 p.m., when Panahida will be recited. Funeral Mass on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. in Ukrainian Catholic Church of The Holy Protection, 30 Leeds St., followed by interment St. Volodymyr’s Cemetery, Oakville.
