Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Yvannia Rossana Figueroa.

She will be greatly missed by her family. Her son Randy. Her mother Mimi. Her sister Fanny. Her beloved nieces and nephews Nattasha, Tyrrone, Tyson, Xavier, and Xiomara. Yvannia, along with her mother Mimi, were well-loved hairdressers and through the decades met many clients who turned into close well-loved friends. And after hearing the abundance of messages and calls in the last week, we know that Yvannia had so many loved ones who will forever miss her witty humor, beautiful smile, and kind heart.

Yvannia loved life and she absolutely lived it to the fullest. She loved to travel. Her favourite destination spot: Cuba. An absolute bookworm. As a young child she often hid from adults who told her to go outside, and instead cuddled up with a good book. Unlike many of her family members, Yvannia loved horror movies. The scarier the better. She loved fashion. She could be easily seen walking through the Roncesvalles area with strappy heels, a chic flowy dress, multitude of accessories, and her big blonde curly hair. And she absolutely loved a good time, filled with music, dancing, and friends.

Yvannia’s family would like to extend a big thank you to the Kensington Hospice team for taking such gentle care of her in the last month of her life. Her final days were pain-free and surrounded by family, laughter, and love. In the end, Yvannia had hope that love could outlive all pain and suffering.

After a long battle with cancer, Yvannia finally gets to rest in eternal peace. Wherever she chooses to go (as she was a fiercely independent woman) we know she’ll have a bottle of wine with her, a good book, a dvd and cd player (never entered the tech world and that’s how she liked it), and memories of her travels and fun times with her friends and family.

We’ll miss you Yvannia. We are better to have known you. We’ll carry you in our hearts and forever remember your lively spirit.

In loving memory of Yvannia and in lieu of flowers, we ask family and friends to bring new children’s books to the service—on Monday September 28th—to be donated to The Children’s Book Bank, which provides free books and literacy programs to children across Toronto. Books needed the most include: Books with Diverse Characters, Baby Books & Board Books, Preschooler Books, Non-fiction (dinosaurs, animals, nature, space), Popular Titles, Graphic Novels & Manga.
